LINCOLN – Paul Leland Fleming, 85, passed away peacefully Aug. 3, 2007, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born May 12, 1922, in Chester, the son of Andrew and Georgia (Leland) Fleming. Paul was educated in the Chester school by his mother and graduated from Winn High School. He entered the Army in 1943 and served in Europe as a technician fourth grade, Battery C 512th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He married Ruth Flanders June 8, 1947. He was employed by W.H. Hinman Co., and also Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. On July 7, 1974, he married Marguerite Steeves. Paul served as a school crossing guard and as janitor for the First Congregational Church, Lincoln. He also worked for Meals for ME. Paul was a lifelong member of Horeb Lodge No. 93, AF & AM, a 60+ year member of American Legion Post No. 77, Avon D. Flanders Post No. 1438 VFW, Eastern Star Chapter No. 112 and a deacon of the First Congregational Church, Lincoln. Mr. Fleming is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marguerite Fleming; daughter, Gloria Edwards and husband, Alan Edwards, of Lincoln; grandsons, Andrew Edwards and wife, Abby, of Chester, William Edwards of Nahant, Mass.; great-granddaughter, Lillian Elizabeth Edwards of Chester; stepdaughter, Cara Stillman and fiance, Charles Matelliano; and stepgrandsons, Max Rosenthal and Peter Stillman, all of Buffalo, N.Y. He was predeceased by his first wife of 25 years, Ruth Fleming, and his parents. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with a Masonic service to be held 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating. A full military honors burial will be held at Lincoln Cemetery.
