PHILIP A. HOYT SR. DANIELSON, Conn. and EASTON – Philip A. Hoyt Sr., 75, died May 29, 2004. He was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Easton, son of the late James Victor, Sr. and Idella (Morrell) Hoyt. He was the husband of Addie Louise Fillmore Hoyt, they were married Nov. 21, 1952, in Presque Isle. He was a 1946 graduate of the Easton High School, a 1950 graduate of Ricker Junior College, a 1952 graduate of The University of Maine and received his master’s degree in 1972 from The University of Connecticut. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in the 24th Division 34th Infantry Regiment. He taught Vocational Agriculture Education at Killingly High School from 1968-1993. He taught Agriculture at Limestone High School from 1954-1968. He was president of the Maine VoAg Teachers Association and The Connecticut VoAg Teachers Association. He received the Honorary American Degree, the highest honor bestowed to a teacher by the National FFA organization. Philip served on the Danielson Borough Council for 10 years and the Killingly Town Council for nine years. He had made his home in Danielson for the last 36 years. He was an active member of the Danielson United Methodist Church, a member of the Moriah Lodge No. I5 A.F. & A.M., Limestone Lodge No. 214 A.F. & A.M., 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Providence Shrine. He was a member of the Connecticut Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Veteran of Foreign wars and the American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, their spouses and 20 grandchildren, Ellen Jenkins and her husband David and grandchildren, Neal, James, and Steven of St. Charles, Mo.; Dr. P. Arthur ‘Archie” Hoyt Jr. and JoAnn and grandchildren, Laurie, Jennifer, Kimberly and Timothy of Yorktown, Va.; Mark Hoyt and his wife, Patricia, and grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Kevin and Shawn of Brooklyn; Paul Hoyt and his wife, Pamela, and grandchildren, Gregory and Christine of Vernon; Nancy Gaudreau and her husband, Albert, and grandchildren, Jenilee, Ryan and Megan Shippee of Danielson, Conn.; Keith Hoyt and his wife, Melissa, and grandchildren, Benjamin, Sarah, Elizabeth and Christopher of Brooklyn; two brothers, Robert E. Hoyt and his wife, Sharon, of Santa Paula, Calif., James Victor Hoyt Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Billerica, Mass.; a sister, Mary Wills and her husband, Richard, of Wolfboro, N.H.; mother-in-law, Marion D. Fillmore of Presque Isle; brothers-in-law, Jerre Fillmore and his wife, Bette, of Danielson, Conn., DeWitt Fillmore and his wife, Anita, of Greensboro, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles T. Hoyt. Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, Conn. A funeral service with military honors will be private with burial in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson, Conn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Killingly FFA, care of Doug Butterfield, Killingly High School, 79 Westfield Ave., Danielson, CT 06239.
