ORONO – Dr. Philip S. Reisman died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at his residence at Dirigo Pines with loving family and caregivers at his side. Phil celebrated his 95th birthday on Dec. 2nd, enjoying immensely an overwhelming crowd of relatives, friends, and staff visiting him and wishing him well. Born Dec. 2, 1909, in Kielce, Poland, Phil immigrated to New York City as a youth. With focus and determination he became a highly respected physician and established a successful private practice with a specialty in surgery in New York City. For 50 years he also served as the medical director of Macy’s and Bamberger’s stores. He maintained an active work schedule well into his eighties. He moved to Maine in 2000, residing with his daughter and her family prior to his residence in Dirigo Pines. From the outset, he expressed great love for Maine, his adopted home, and the people he came to know. Phil was an avid reader, walker, sports enthusiast, a huge crossword fan, and appreciated immensely classical music, attending performances of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra on a regular basis. Philip was predeceased by wives, Ruth Friedman and Arline Pauselius; and his brother, Murray Reisman. He is survived by his brother, Charles Reisman of Delray Beach, Fla.; his three children, Maurice Reisman of West Bloomfield, Mich., Jesse Reisman of Montville, N.J., and Susan Kaye of Orono; his four grandchildren, Ron and Amy Reisman and Lindsay and Nicholas Kaye. The family is so very grateful for the nurturing, exemplary professional care and personal attention provided by the staff of Dirigo Pines throughout Phil’s residence and the love and concern expressed by Dirigo Pines’ residents. Philip Reisman was a very special, loving man who lived his long and memorable life to its fullest. A dedicated father, grandfather, and generous philanthropist, his positive and caring character touched the lives of so many near and far. He is loved and will be sorely missed by countless individuals. Services will be held in New York City. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization he supported during his lifetime, the Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center, P.O. Box 918, Bangor, ME 04402.
