EAST MACHIAS – Phyllis Marion (Spurling) Albee, 73, died unexpectedly Jan. 22, 2004, at a Bangor hospital She was born Oct. 7, 1930, at Mount Desert, the daughter of Edwin and Flora (Berry) Spurling. Phyllis lived her first five years on Cranberry Island before her family moved to Machias. She attended Machias Schools and graduated from the Machias High School in 1948, as the class Valedictorian. She received her teaching certificate from the Machias Normal School in 1951, and received her B.S. in education from U.M.M. in 1979. Phyllis enjoyed writing short stories, gardening, feeding and watching birds and wildlife. She worked as a bus driver for SAD 77 for several years and worked with special needs children at the Ft. O’Brien School in Machiasport, and the Elm St. School in East Machias. Her most recent job was working as an RFD carrier. She was a member of the Jacksonville United Methodist Church, where she was famous for her Blueberry and Apple Pies. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Keith Albee of East Machias; her five children, Sally Fitzsimmons and her husband, Charlie, of Whiting, Kenny Albee of East Machias and his fianc_e, Sandra Stoll, of Highland Falls, N.Y., Brian Albee and his wife, Maureen, of East Machias, Mark Albee and his companion, Karen Arkin, of Ellsworth, and Joey Albee and his wife, Kay, of East Machias; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Jeffcoat and Katherine Alley. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Jacksonville United Methodist Church with Rev. Betty Palmer officiating. Internment will be at the Hadley’s Lake Cemetery, East Machias.
