DIXMONT – Raymond Charles Ramsey Sr., 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at his home, with his loving family. He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Milford, the son of the late William and Helen Ramsey. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp. Before leaving for the service he married Ethel (Lyon) of Orono. After discharge they settled in Orono until 1988, when they moved to Dixmont. Raymond worked for New Franklin Laundry in Bangor until his retirement in 1978, due to health reasons. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel; daughters, Ethel and her husband, Jim Heckman, of Vassalboro, Lucretia Smith of Waterville, Rae Ann and her husband, Peter Oakes, of East Machias; daughter-in-law, Lisa Ramsey of Dixmont; brothers, Martin of Milford and Henry and his wife, Sandra, of Calais; sister, Lucy and her husband, Pat Dufour, of Old Town; eight grandchildren, James Heckman Jr., Scott and his wife, Kia Heckman, Traci and her husband, Kevin Benatchez, Travis and his wife, Tanya Oakes, Tina and her husband, Jason Mason, William and his wife, Malorie Ramsey, James Raymond Ramsey and Brandy Lee Ramsey; nine great-grand-children, Trevor Heckman, Kalib and Jacob Benatchez, Katrina, Chelsea and Mikayla Oakes, Cole and Ethan Mason and James W. Ramsey. He was blessed to have others call him “Grampy Ray” who loved him very much, Zachary Cox, Erinn, Olivia and Emily Michaud and Cassie, Blake and Ellie Marden. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Herbert Ramsey; sisters, Bertha Gilman, Lucretia Zito, Bessie Mather and Grace McClure; son, Raymond “Rick” Ramsey Jr.; infant daughter, Donna Mae Ramsey; son-in-law, David Smith; great- grandsons, C.J. and Lucas Heckman. Raymond was dearly loved by all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. At his request no services will be held at this time.
