BANGOR and BRADENTON, Fla. – The Rev. David R. Garland, husband of Marion Penney Garland for 57 years, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ Feb. 21, 2008, in Bradenton, Fla. He was born May 11, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Moses Garland Sr. and Edith Pauline (Campbell) Yerxa. David attended Bangor pub-lic schools. He graduated from Husson College, Bangor Theo-logical Seminary and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. David served churches in Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts; Columbia Street Baptist Church was his home church. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Dawna Marszalek of Bradenton, Fla., and Linda Ar-nold and husband, Michael, of Bangor; a son, David II and wife, Imelda, of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael Arnold and wife, Joarly, and Wesley Arnold of Brewer, Melissa Duncan and husband, Chris, Janelle Marszalek, and David III, of Bradenton, Fla.; one great-grandson, Zachary Arnold of Brewer; many other relatives and friends whom he loved. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Moses Jr. and Donald. Calling hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hamp-den. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Sprague officiating. Burial will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a contribution to a memorial fund at one of the churches that David served.
