PRESQUE ISLE – Peter L. Powers, 87, died Feb. 22, 2008, at a Presque Isle health care fac-ility. He was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Presque Isle, the son of Patrick and Mary (Beaulieu) Powers. He was brought up on a farm in the Presque Isle area. Peter served in the U.S. Army from January 1943 to May 1946, spending 28 months in Europe and received a commission overseas. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War from February 1951 to November 1952, and was a retired reservist as a lieutenant colonel with 30 years active and reserve service. He attended Bryant College, Providence, R.I., and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in August 1950. In June 1953 he was employed by Northern National Bank and after many years retired as vice president of Casco Northern Bank. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, Third Armored Division Association and Reserve Officers Association of the United States. He was a former director and treasurer of Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of Diocesan Finance Council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and Parish Council of St. Mary’s Parish, Presque Isle. Peter was a member of Pres-que Isle Rotary Club, served as president 1979-1980 and received the Paul Harris award. He is survived by his wife, Annette (Daigle) Powers of Presque Isle; a son, Jerry Pelletier and his wife, Mary, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a daughter, Sharon Greim and her husband, Clifton, of Auburn; a sister, Martha Marston of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Krista, Janis, Michelle and Jenee; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Liam and Mara; many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by five brothers, Thomas, Lewellyn, Edmund, James and Justin. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant.
