LISBON and FREEPORT – Richard L. Libby of Lisbon Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the son of Leroy P. and Edith Brett Libby. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1942. He served in the Army Infantry during World War II, after which time he attended the University of Maine at Orono, and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Lane Construction Company in Meriden, Conn. for 36 years retiring in 1987. He was a former member of the Freeport Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited, Masons and the Elks. He was predeceased by four brothers, Leroy Libby, Alfred Libby, Donald Libby, Winfield “Winnie” Libby and a sister, Frances Ringrose. He is survived by his wife, Fern D. “Foster” Williams Libby of Lisbon and Brewer; two stepsons, Bruce R. Williams and his wife, Vianka, of Sanford and Andrew B. Williams of Brewer; three brothers, Stanley Libby and his wife, Marion, of Freeport; Clarence Libby and his wife, Peggy, of Durham and Norman Libby and his wife, Catherine, of Tewksbury, Mass.; three sisters, Evelyn Porter of Freeport; Margaret Uldall of Portland and Luella Merryman of Lisbon Falls; a sister-in-law, Alice Libby of Westbrook; two grandsons, Brandon and Gregory Williams of Sanford. He was a special uncle in the lives of numerous nieces and nephews. His wife said, his life centered around all his family. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A reception will follow at the chapel. Interment in Burr Cemetery, Freeport, will be private.
