CARIBOU – Richard “Ritchie” Habeeb, 83, died July 10, 2004 at his Caribou residence, following a long illness. He was born June 23, 1921, in Caribou, the son of Thomas and Barbara (Moucherek) Habeeb Sr. He was a graduate of Caribou High School and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Ritchie served with great pride in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, as a machine gun crewman at numerous battles including Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, and was a life member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW. Mr. Habeeb was employed by the U.S. Postal service as a postal carrier in Caribou for more than 30 years. He married Donna (Woods) Habeeb on June 23, 1968. Surviving in addition to his wife, Donna of Caribou, are his daughter, Barbara Jean Hug of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two stepsons, Timothy and Dana Jones, both of Caribou; two stepdaughters, Terri Rossignol and Susan Ennis, both of Bangor; his sister, Freda Habeeb; and his brother, Kenneth Habeeb, both of Caribou; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Habeeb was predeceased by four brothers, Philip, Frederick, Thomas and Joseph. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where members of the VFW will conduct evening memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in Ritchie’s memory may do so through the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church memorial fund.
