ELLSWORTH and LEWISTON – Robert Davis Hogan, 53, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 6, 2007, with his loving wife, Aimee, by his side at his home in Lewiston. He was born March 11, 1954, in Bar Harbor, the son of Robert Wigmore Hogan and Susie Mae (Davis) Hogan of Ellsworth. He was the grandson of Percy Hogan, originally of Prince Edward Island, and Laura (Hiscock) Hogan of Farmington and Mildred (Shepard) Davis, originally of Kennebunkport, and James Davis of New Sharon. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents; and his older brother, Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Aimee (Bellefleur) Hogan of Topsham; and their son, Matthew Robert Hogan. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Jean Hogan of Bangor; his son, Robert John Hogan of Kennebunk, and his former wife, Patricia (Tardiff) Hogan, formerly of Lewiston and currently of Kennebunk. In addition, Bob leaves his younger sister, Deborah Sue Hogan, her husband, Dr. Paul Kenneth Albert and their two children, Belle Mae and Ariel Gabriella, all of Ellsworth. Bob was a pilot, scuba diver and motorcycle enthusiast. After graduating in 1972 from Ellsworth High School, Bob earned his degree in business and worked in the banking and mortgage industries in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine, and was president of Dirigo Home Loans, Brunswick, at the time of his passing. Bob wrote several servicing programs, developed software and created a loan product and procedures training manual that are still in use throughout the industry. He taught finance and related courses for many colleges and universities, as well as instructing for the American Institute of Banking. Bob claimed his best childhood memories were from summers spent on Branch Lake. As a child, Bob enjoyed fishing and diving off “Big Rock,” boating, waterskiing and catching lightning bugs in a jar. He took many twilight covert bicycle trips to the top of the camp road in order to monitor the ripeness of the fenced off orchard apples. He enjoyed nighttime boating and loved to regale others about filling an old cast iron clawfoot bathtub at camp with water and fish from a late night hornpouting expedition and hearing his mother’s screams upon discovering them in the early light of morning. Bob could talk his sister into anything, once convincing her that she, like Evel Knievel, could jump their 3.5 hp mini-bike over the lagoon at camp. This left her dazed with a huge muffler burn and he with a story he never tired of telling. Bob was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. His daughter, Jennifer, won both a New Hampshire and later a Maine state Odyssey of the Mind championship and attended the World Odyssey of the Mind competition twice, once placing fifth. Bob spoke often of the father and son motorcycle trip he took with Rob to New Hampshire and was amazed by Rob’s artistic creativity, noting that Rob was being approached to do special project work, even though he had just started college in September. There is no doubt that Matthew will also grow up to make his father proud. All who knew Bob will never forget the big hearty laugh that reverberated from every molecule of his being and filled the room and the hearts of those around him. An unforgettable laugh from an unforgettable man. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Ellsworth Falls Congregational Church with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating. A spring committal service will be held in the family site at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington. Please share any stories, memories or photos you have of Bob by emailing them to disney@wildblue.net. These will be especially important to his youngest son, Matthew, someday.
