BURLINGTON – Robert Dean Shorey, “Bumperjack,” 71, died July 31, 2007, at Penobscot Valley Hospital, Lincoln, having victory over sickness and disease. He has gone peacefully home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born Feb. 19, 1936, in Burlington, the son of the late Roland Shorey Sr. and Richardena “Dena” (Jipson) Shorey. Robert left school early on to work and help his family. He enjoyed life, especially hunting, fishing, driving on backcountry roads, and good old, toe tapping country and western music. He spent many a day enjoying the Wilbur Field at the bus, and the coast of Maine. He was a friend to everyone, always willing to lend a hand, or an ear. He enjoyed cooking for himself, or for a whole crowd. He is survived by three daughters, Sally and her husband, Gary Michaud, of Lowell, Mary Humphrey and her friend, Mark Munn, of Athens, and Darcy and her husband, Scott Shorey, of Lowell; and their mother, Patricia Shorey. He dearly loved and thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, Sonya, Kevin, Randy, Robby, Amanda, and Archie; and his great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Courtney, Mikey, Owen, and Dylan. He leaves two brothers and their wives, Roland Jr. and his wife, Doris Shorey, and Delmont and his wife, Patty Shorey; two sisters, Flora Tripp and Georgia Luce; an aunt, Ruth Thurlow; several nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no funeral, but there will be a gathering noon, Aug. 11, at the bus in the Wilbur Field. Everyone bring some food to share.
