ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Robert “Bob” Waltz, 73, died June 10, 2004, at Palm Garden of Largo, after a lengthy bout with cancers. Mr. Waltz was born July 21, 1930, in Portland, the son of Wilmot W. and Hannah B. (Chapman) Waltz. Bob was raised in Passadumkeag, where he attended grammar school and graduated from Howland High School in 1948. He worked with the Forest Engineering Dept. of International Paper Co. He married Helen Witherell of Taunton, Mass., who later passed away in 1974 due to cancer. He served in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division for two years and was discharged with rank of Corporal February 1954. He returned to the Woodlands Department of IP in Mattawamkeag. After a short time, Bob was encouraged by management to accept a leave of absence to attend Northeastern University, Boston, where he graduated in 1959. Upon graduation he resumed work with International Paper but in the Sales Dept. of the Boston office while residing in Taunton, Mass. He was national account sales manager when he retired in June 1992. He married Marilyn on Aug. 26, 1984, and they lived aboard their yacht, “Porpoise,” at Danvers, Mass., and Warren, R.I. Bob was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1991, and the doctor suggested he retire from work and have some fun. After 42 years with International Paper, he retired and the Waltz’s and moved to Florida to live aboard a new boat, “Lady Waltz.” Bob’s love of the water and boats kept him busy and he was known as “Trader Bob” selling boats for Yacht Brokerage USA and surveying for American Marine Surveyors. All good things must come to an end and they became land bound again, settling in at the adult park of Mobel Americana. Bob was a long time member of Winthrop Street Baptist Church and a Mason in the King David Lodge in Taunton, Mass. Family members include his wife of 20 years, Marilyn Maynard Waltz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two children, Bonnie DeMoranville of Tiverton, R.I., and Jeffrey A. Waltz of Cornville; three stepdaughters, Holly Groll of Duxbury, Mass., Lori Ditchfield of Frederick, Md., and Dana Southall of Duxbury, Mass.; two brothers, Wesley W. Waltz and Harold E. Waltz of Millinocket; two sisters, Muriel Grover of Passadumkeag, and Helen M. Waltz of Zephyrhills, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Kerry, Holly and Betsy DeMoranville of Tiverton, R.I., Laura and Jennifer Waltz of Cornville, Shanna Ditchfield of Worcester, Mass., Amanda and David Southall of Duxbury, Mass., Samuel and Andrea Groll of Duxbury, Mass.; and one great-grandson, Caleb Jonathan “CJ” DeMoranville. After cremation in Florida, a Masonic memorial service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, and burial will be at Gould’s Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag.
