JR. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. Roland “Ronnie” “Rollie” Edward King Jr., 79, passed away Oct. 1, 2007, at his daughter’s home in Boynton Beach, Fla., after a long illness. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends were at his side. Roland was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Bangor, the oldest son of Yvonne Soucie King and Roland E. King Sr. Upon graduating from John Bapst High School, Bangor, he immediately began working as a linotype operator at Bangor Daily News, Bangor, making it his lifelong career, from which he retired in 1990, after working for 42 years. Upon retiring, he moved to Florida to be with his children there. He loved the ocean and lived within walking distance to the beach, where he walked daily, weather and health permitting, and enjoyed gathering beautiful seashells to give to his family. He also was an avid reader and kept up with the news in Maine via the Bangor Daily News, which was sent to him regularly. Roland was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, William, Robert and Albert King; and son, Terrance King, who died in infancy. He is survived by four sons, Thomas King of West Palm Beach, Fla., Scott King of Orono, Jeffrey King of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Timothy King of Ellsworth; three daughters, Robin LaVerdiere of Massachusetts, Katherine Ladd of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Deborah King of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Mary and husband, Joel Bolshaw, of Hancock, Helen and husband, Larry Denny, of Bonaire, Ga., Diana Cervone of Medford, Mass., and Roseanna Whittington of Panama City, Fla.; and one brother, Dennis and wife, Linda, of Hancock; 10 grandchildren, Heidi and husband, Brandon Adams, of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Krystle King of Long Beach, Miss., April and Sarah Robinson of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Lakeworth, Fla., respectively, Larry King, Jennifer King, Julie King and Nancy LeMoine, all of Ellsworth, Elizabeth and Matthew Ladd of Chapel Hill, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Summer Jade, Devon, Kayla and Kalanee Robinson, all of Florida, Chanz and Trevor Bull, Tessa and Nathan LaMoine, all of Ellsworth; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Roland’s life will be held in Florida for his family and friends and later in Maine for family and friends there.
