ROCKWOOD – Ronald W. Douglass Sr. died Aug. 20, 2005, at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was born March 28, 1939, in New London, Conn., the son of Fred and Lillian (Rogers) Douglass; raised by stepfather Donald C. Mix. Before moving to Maine he lived in Connecticut, where he was part of the state military guard, winning awards for his marksmanship. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He became a master mechanic before moving to Maine, where he bought and operated a garage, a store and several other businesses. In his later years, he became a master craftsman, building furniture and children’s toys. He was a great father and husband, finding great joy in his family and friends. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Mitchum) Douglass, of Englewood, Fla.; three sons, Mike of Englewood, Fla., Alan Douglass and Ronald Jr., both of Rockwood; grandchildren, Liza, Jason, Ronald III, Nate; a brother, Fred Douglass of East Haddam, Conn. A small service was held Aug. 24 in Venice, Fla.
