HIRAM – Rosamond “Roz” Grant Thompson, 91, of Dearborn Road, passed away Jan. 2, 2007, at Bridgton Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Boston, a daughter of Robert and Julie Maloney Grant. She was educated in Newton, Mass., schools. She also attended art school at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Roz was an artist, a poet and an author. She drew her whimsical creatures freehand, not only by sewing machine, but also on the computer and with pen and pastel. An expert on wild food in Maine, she contributed articles for the Maine Times and completed two manuscripts, “Wild Food Cooking,” illustrated by Arthur Thompson, and “The Wild Wok.” It was in her book “Saco Belle, the Swimming Lamb” that she combined her drawing and writing skills to recount the true story of a lost lamb making her way home across the treacherous Saco River. A member of the Bridgton Art Guild, she participated in several exhibits last summer. Rosamond Thompson was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Albert Thompson, also an artist, in 1988. Surviving are one daughter, Jane Sumner of Hiram; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Cornish, later this spring. A celebration of her life and work will also be held later this spring. A scholarship in memory of Rosamond “Roz” Grant Thompson has been established for a Bonny Eagle High School graduating senior to attend art school.
