ORLAND – Rose Elaine Carroll Centanni, 75, beloved mother of Stephen A. Centanni and beloved grandmother of Nicolette Rose Centanni, passed away June 12, 2007, as the result of a tragic automobile accident in Orland. “Elaine” was born June 30, 1931, to James C. and Rose E. (Marshall) Carroll. She was the born in the coastal town of Gloucester, Mass., where Elaine spent her childhood with her sister, Mary. Elaine excelled in high school to become salutatorian of her graduating class. Shortly after high school, she met and married Donald Centanni, who was in the armed services. Her marriage to Don offered her the opportunity to travel the world and Elaine gave birth May 3, 1952, to her only child, Stephen, while in England. He was her pride and joy. Being from a strong Irish and Portuguese background, Elaine provided a warm and loving home for her family. She moved that loving home with them back to the United States to reside in New Jersey, after Don’s retirement from the service. They moved to Maine in the 1970s, where Elaine worked for many years as secretary at the Farmer’s Home Administration, Bucksport. Elaine’s marriage ended in divorce in the mid-1980s. She continued keeping busy as the coordinator of the Bucksport Meals for Maine program for many years, until she could no longer do so due to health issues. Elaine was blessed with the second love of her life Feb. 12 1981, when her only grandchild, Nicolette Rose was born. Nicolette was very special to Elaine from the time she was tiny with ringlet curls and chubby cheeks to the present day. Elaine had a pride that made her glow as she talked and looked at Nicolette, who is now a pharmacist in Massachusetts. Elaine, Steve and Nikki were all together the night she passed away. Elaine is survived by her son, Steve and his friend, Carolyn Wright; her granddaughter, Nicolette Rose; her special “daughter,” Franny Ma-guire and her husband, Brian and family of Orland; her sister, Mary Day and her husband, Stanley, of Florida; a nephew, Stan Day and his wife, Denise; nieces, Debbie Mardney and her husband, Billy, and Susie Cantone, all of Massachusetts; a special sister-in-law, Patty of New Jersey; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Terry and Karen Bowden of Bucksport, Pat Robinson and Jane Hopkins, as well as many, many other special friends. Elaine was loved very much by many in the community and she will be sadly missed by all. A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at a later date to be announced by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
