OLD TOWN – Rosemary Agnes (Soucy) Reid, 78, wife of the late Henry S. Reid, died unexpectedly Monday, March 15, 2004, at a Florida hospital after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Old Town, the daughter of Gilmore F. and Mildred A. (White) Soucy. In 1943, Rosemary worked as a junior communication machine operator for the office of Civilian Defense in Washington, D.C. She was a leader in the brownies and a den mother for Pack 72 in Great Works with her three children. She was a long time member of the National Circle Daughters of Isabella St. Cecilia Circle No. 428, as well as a member and past president in the American Legion Auxiliary, Ted Lait Unit No. 75. She also enjoyed hunting in the Greenfield and Pushaw Lake areas with her father and Elmer Buchanan. A life-long dream, starting in high school was to be a nurse. She accomplished this in 1948 by graduating from Lewiston’s St. Mary’s General Hospital, School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Later in life she started working as the night R.N. at Orono Commons Nursing Home in 1969. Retiring in 1991, she was now able to spend more time at her cottage on the Old Town landing of Pushaw Lake. She spent many days on her front porch watching the water, birds, flora and fauna. Many happy hours and memories were also spent with her best friend, Genine Bouchard, playing cards and games as well as shopping and going out to lunch. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary A. (Reid) Bernard and her husband, David, of New Jersey; two sons, Michael P. Reid and his wife, Deborah, of Old Town, Richard S. Reid and his wife, Sally, of Florida; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Bernard) Harriott and her husband, Kurt, of New Jersey, Melissa, Samantha and Madeline Bernard, all of New Jersey, Henry and Rebecca Reid of Florida; one great-grandchild, Kurt Harriott of New Jersey; two sisters, Lillian A. Buchanan and her husband, Elmer, of Old Town, and Rita A. Soucy and her life-long companion, John Leebrich, of Silver Spring, Md.; a nephew, Theodore G. Buchanan and his wife, Verna, of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles B. Soucy, in 1999. All will remember Rosemary for her soft and caring ways that have touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian burial and gravesite services will be held at a later date in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Old Town.
