BELFAST – Ruth Lockwood MacIntosh died Friday, July 25, 2008, surrounded by family members at home. Born July 18, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Henry Cooper Lockwood and Isabel Brockner (Tyte) Lockwood. She received an athletic scholarship to Pembroke College, Brown University, and graduated magna cum laude at age 20. While there, she met and later married William D. MacIntosh II. They moved to Belfast in 1959, after purchasing a grain mill in Thorndike. She worked at the Belfast Free Library for 20 years and was a member of the PEO sisterhood. She enjoyed the symphony, musicals, crossword puzzles, swimming, reading murder mysteries and spending time with her cats. She was also an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. She is survived by her sister, Isabel Field of New Jersey; her five children, Dianne MacIntosh of Guilford Conn., Duncan MacIntosh of Nashua, N.H., Jeanne Bonewitz of Stoughton, Mass., Joyce MacIntosh of Somesville and Craig MacIntosh of Warren; and her eight grandchildren, Shea Crosby, Kevin Staples, Felicia Staples, Elan MacIntosh, Amber MacIntosh, Ian MacIntosh, Cassandra Putsch and Daria Putsch. She was predeceased by her husband, William D. MacIntosh II. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Belfast, with a celebration of life service 2 p.m. at Belfast Free Library.
