FORT FAIRFIELD – Samuel Rideout, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Caribou Nursing Home. He was born Feb. 11, 1925, on the family homestead in Portage, New Brunswick, the son of Frank and Mary (Hitchcock) Rideout. He was a graduate of Aroostook Junction N.B. High School in 1943 and then from Dalhousie Medical School, Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1946, as a medical doctor. He was a surgeon in the local area for 46 years as well as a medical examiner for the state of Maine. He is from a family of 11 children. He worked hard to put himself through college and at one time was working in the woods and farming to pay his way. He is survived by his wife, Frances Rideout of Fort Fairfield; five children, Kirk and his wife, Mary, of Belmont, Kathryn and her husband, Dennis, of Littleton, Mass., Sam and his wife, Tabitha, of Shediac, New Brunswick, Dr. David and his wife, Heather, of Lisbon, Kimberly and her husband, Jeff, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Ernest of Ottawa; sister, Dr. Roberta (Rideout) Swade of Erdenheim, Pa.; brother, Donald of Fredericton; sister, Elizabeth Rideout of Fredericton; brother-in-law, Walter and Beryl McLaughlin of Toronto, sister-in-law, Lois Wetmore and her husband, John, of Kamloops, British Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to also extend a special thanks to Dr. Eric Nicholas and to the staff at Caribou Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Eastern Time, Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Ortonville Baptist Church, Ortonville, New Brunswick, with the Rev. Jim Rhyno officiating. Interment will be conducted at the church cemetery after the service. There will also be a time of refreshments after the service in the church hall.
