LEE – Sgt. Blair W. Emery, 24, husband of Chu Emery, died Nov. 30, 2007, in Baqoubah, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was born Nov. 2, 1983, in Lincoln, the son of Earl “Bill” and Quie (Thompson) Emery. Blair graduated from Lee Academy. In 2002, as a left-handed pitcher, he won the baseball game that made Lee the Eastern Maine champions. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He served with the 571st Military Police Company, 97th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade of Fort Lewis, Wash., and was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. His ambition was to serve as a police officer after his Army service was done. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sisters, Betsy Siegfried and Brandon of Fort Knox, Ky., and Hilary Emery of Holden; maternal grandparents, Alton and Ruby Thompson of Alaska; paternal grandmother, Joan Emery of Danforth; one niece, Quie Siegfried; one nephew, Howard Francis; aunts and uncles, Alton Thompson and Norma, Carl Thompson and Lisa, Chris Thompson and Paul Thompson and Mary, all of Alaska, Kathy Cropley and Butch of Danforth, Joan Russell and Larry of Robinston, and Master Sgt. Carolyn Emery, retired, of Atlanta. His wife, Chuhyon, was residing in Copperas Cove, Texas, while he was deployed to Iraq. Chuhyon will be accompanied to the funeral with her mother, Si Kyoung Jones; her father, William Jones; her brother, Chol Woo Pak and his wife, Un Chong Pak; her grandmother, Kay Jones; and aunt, Susan Jones. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Cpl. Earl W. Emery. Funeral services will be held noon Friday at Lee Academy gymnasium.
