GLENBURN – Shirley Mildred Michaud, 86, passed away peacefully July 3, 2005, at her home with her daughter, Sheila and her son, Gerald at her side. She was born May 21, 1919, at Bradford, a daughter of Fred and Gladys (Jack) Mansell. Shirley graduated from Bradford High School, Class of 1936. She later graduated from Deep River Justice Academy and received a degree in criminal justice from Tunxis Community College. She retired from the Connecticut State Women’s Correctional Institution in Niantic, Conn. In 1954, Shirley, her husband Neil, and her five children moved to Newington, Conn., where they lived for many years. Both Neil and Shirley returned to Maine in 1988 to spend their remaining years. She was an outgoing person and was always ready to help when there was a need. She was well-known for her sewing talents and sewed entire wardrobes for people. She was a loving mother and cherished family reunions and special occasions. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, and her son, George. She is survived by three sons, Reginal Michaud and his wife, Kathy Giblin, of New Britain, Conn., Dennis Michaud and his wife, Sharon Reihmer, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Gerald Michaud and his wife, Helen, of Greenbush; a daughter, Sheila Michaud of Glenburn; daughter-in-law, Anna Michaud of New Britain, Conn.; sister, Katherine Cookson of Glenburn; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the family lot, Village Cemetery, Pittsfield. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
