SKOWHEGAN – Stanley Daniels, 71, passed away Dec. 7, 2007, with his loving family by his side at Woodlawn Nursing Home, after a brief illness. Stanley was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Augusta, a son of the late Alfred and Alexandrine (Drouin) Daniels. He was educated in Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School, Class of 1954, where he enjoyed playing football and hockey. Stanley played semi- pro hockey for the Waterville Bruins. While in high school he entered the Navy Reserves and upon graduation, served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Japan for two years. After returning home he went to work for Waterville Welding, then for the state of Maine as a bank examiner, then for Bangor Savings and Bangor Federal Credit Union as a collection manager, where he eventually retired due to illness. In his younger years he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and skating. Stanley loved watching the Patriots, Notre Dame football and the University of Maine Black Bear hockey. He loved to travel and spent the past six winters in Myrtle Beach, Fla., there he loved to watch the sunrise on the ocean from his balcony while having his coffee. He also loved visiting all the fri-ends that he made from other states while being there and every year they would meet. Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Pat (Steward) Daniels of Skowhegan; his four children, Bill Daniels of Clinton, Jack Daniels of Portland, Paula Kirtley and husband, Bill, of Arlington, Mass., and Anne Macklin and husband, Rob, of Jericho, Vt.; his six stepchildren, Davida Reed and husband, Dickie, of Clinton, Duane Steward and wife, Carol, of Skowhegan, Kevin Steward and wife, Kelly, of Lincoln, Kelly Steward of Hampden, Valerie Curtis and husband, Lloyd, of Canaan and Jason Steward of Biddeford. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanine Wordin of Scarborough. Stanley was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Bob Daniels. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
