BREWER – Stanley O. Getchell, 80, died peacefully Friday evening, March 31, 2006, at his home in Brewer. He was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Hampden, the second of seven children of George H. and Laura (Colson) Getchell. Stanley attended schools in Newburgh and Hampden and served with the U.S. Army in Okinawa from 1945-1946. He was employed for 16 years at Getchell Brothers Ice and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Brewer after 23 and one half years. He was a longtime member of the Penobscot County Conservation Association. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Thelma Dorr, Glennis Bryant and Helen MacLeod; and a brother, Sterling Getchell. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion (Huskins) Getchell of Brewer; daughter, Pamela Concannon and her husband, Gerard, of Portland; son, Garry Getchell and his wife, Candice, of Newburgh; daughter, Sandra Hurd and her husband, Lawrence Jr. of Bangor; grandchildren, Heather Hurd and her fiance, Edward Mercier, of Brewer, Christopher Concannon of Portland, Andrew Hurd of Bangor; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Mercier of Brewer; sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Charlene) Webb of Island Falls and Mrs. Clayton (Freela) Lancaster of Garland. Stanley requested that there be no funeral. A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
