AUGUSTA – Virginia C. Bechard, 90, of Eastern Avenue and formerly of 20 Willow St., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center, after an extended illness. She was born May 9, 1916, in Millbridge, the daughter of Arthur Stanwood and Harriet (Nash) Stanwood. Mrs. Bechard attended Millbridge schools. She was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, but had been employed by Hallowell Shoe Co. for 10 years. Her husband, Denis Bechard, died July 4, 1982. She was also predeceased by four brothers, Roger Stanwood, Victor Stanwood, Omer Stanwood and Fillemore Stanwood; and a sister, Charlotte Godbout. Surviving is a son, Denis Bechard Jr. of Hallowell; a daughter, Harriet Shufeldt of Augusta; a sister, Helen Stanwood of Camden; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be private. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Committal prayers will be offered 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the chapel at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
