HAMPDEN – Wayne Malcome Carson Sr., 55, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died March 21, 2004, at home surrounded by his family and close friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 17, 1948, in Bangor, the son of James “Burleigh” Carson Sr. and Claire (Reed) Carson. Wayne attended schools in Hampden, where he made friends that would remain close for life. His unselfish giving of himself, his talents, and his wry sense of humor will remain as a tribute to his life for many years to come. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and camping; but most importantly, was his comradery on these outdoor excursions with friends and family. “Camp” was a special place in the north woods where he gathered with his son, nephews, brothers, and friends for good company, good food, good drink, and spirited cribbage games. His talents as an illustrator, artist, cabinet maker, and carpenter will remain in the Bangor area for generations to see, as a commemoration of his abilities with a pencil and pen, hammer and saw, and square and compass. No matter where Wayne went he made friends easily that would remain for life, but most important to him, was his family. He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Lorraine (Thorne) Carson; his son and companion, Wayne Carson Jr. and his wife, Cheryl; one and one/half grandchildren, his pride and joy, granddaughter, Winter Noel and grandson due to arrive in June; he will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, James B. Carson Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Millinocket, Reed F. Carson Sr. and his wife, Jeannie, of Etna, and Alan C. Carson of Florida; his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews will fondly remember him as a special friend always available to lend a hand. He was predeceased by his father and mother, whom he cared for unselfishly during her illness. The family would like to extend special thanks to “the boys” for their unwavering friendship and tremendous support during this most difficult time. A memorial service will be held, 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where visiting hours will be held from 12 noon until time of service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
