WILLIAM ‘CAM’ CAMBRIDGE EDDY ‘THE LAST NEWFOUNDLANDER’ LINCOLN – William “Cam” Cambridge Eddy, “The Last Newfoundlander,” died Oct. 25, 2007, at Penobscot Valley Hospital, Lincoln. He was born June 18, 1922, in North Harbour, Newfoundland. William, known as “Cam,” “Bill,” “Poppy,” “Skipper” and “Herring Choker,” began working at an early age on his family fishing and trading schooners and lumbering operation. He moved to the U.S. working on farms in Prentiss and Corinna. While visiting Newfoundland in the late ’40s, he was caught by and married the late, Ruby Winifred Taylor. They returned to the Lincoln area and resided on the Enfield Road, Lincoln, for more than 50 years. He worked in the woods for many years. In the ’60s, he partnered with Ruby and family and friends running Eddy’s Beanhole Beans. He retired from Forster Manufacturing where he was a scaler in 1999, at the age of 71. He was quick to point out that the abbreviation for Newfoundland, NFLD, meant, “never found lying down.” He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Ruby; and granddaughter, Laura May of Lincoln. He is survived by sister, Nita of Swift Current, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland; brother, Stan of North Harbour, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland; his sons, William George and wife, Sanyo Eddy, of Lincoln, and Cyril and Susan Eddy of Barrington, N.H., and Ronald Eddy of Burlington; his granddaughters, Melinda Eddy of Lincoln, Kim and husband, Dwayne Doucette, of Mooresville, N.C., Kasey and husband, Allen Davis, of Maiden, N.C., and Jessica Eddy of Manhattan, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Kylee and Brady Doucette of Mooresville, N.C.; a very special nephew, Terry “Doc” Keating and wife, Lori, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; a “fourth son,” Kendall McFalls of Edinburg; a “second fourth son,” Doug King of Taylor Street, Lincoln; the family clan, especially the Armstrong and Keating branches. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Young will officiate at a graveside service 2 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Cemetery where his ashes will be placed with his wife, Ruby; his granddaughter, Laura May; and beside his lifelong friends, Anna and Ralph Armstrong.
