CALAIS – William “Bill” James Hornbrook, 76, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home. Bill was born March 21, 1929, in Calais, the son of the late James and Annie (Donahue) Hornbrook. He served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers during the Korean War, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Bill married Donna McLean on March 15, 1968. He was employed by Washington County Vocational Technical Institute, as a custodian for more than 19 years. Bill was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais, held a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus Counsel No. 149 in Calais, Boyd-Smith Post No. 9779 VFW, and the American Legion Post No. 3, both of Calais. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV, automobiles, his memories of Grand Lake Stream, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife of over 37 years, Donna, he is survived by his son, Gregg Hornbrook and his wife, Michelle, of Calais; a daughter, Julie Boies and her husband, Michael, of Baileyville; two brothers, John Hornbrook and his wife, Betty, of Alexander, and Willard “Sonny” Hornbrook of Calais; two grandchildren, Scott and Sara Boies; three stepgrandchildren, Derrick and Nicholas White and Kristen Boies; several nieces and nephews; and their families; a very dear friend Francina Pelletier; and many close and dear friends. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais Ave., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Frank Morin. Burial will follow in Calais Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Boyd-Smith Post No. 9779 VFW, Calais.
