PALMYRA – William Weston Nutter, 84, passed away Feb. 26, 2005, at his home in Palmyra following a lengthy illness. He was born July 25, 1920, in St. Albans, the son of the late Linwood and Victoria (Sinclair) Nutter of St. Albans. He attended St. Albans and Corinna schools. On Aug.26, 1939, he married the former Norma Emery in Corinna, who survives him. He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Flag ship U.S.S. Columbus in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at Irving Tannery in Hartland as a Buffer Machine Operator for 22 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Steeves & McCormack Post 141 American Legion in Hartland. William was a holder of the Cole Transportation Museum World War II veterans walking stick having marched in eight veteran’s parades in Bangor. He was an avid gardener, he spent many hours gardening and caring for his yard. He enjoyed going to the family camp on Great Moose Pond in Hartland and spending time with the family members. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Norma of Palmyra; he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Cross of Nashua, N.H.; a nephew, Darrell Brooks of San Bernardino, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Hilda Nutter of Hartland; brothers-in-law, Harlan Emery and his wife, Ina, and Clyde Emery and his wife, Jeanette, all of Hartland; special nieces and nephews all of whom were devoted to the “Papa” and several cousins. William was predeceased by a sister, Mrya Brooks of San Bernardino, Calif., in 2004. There will be no visitation. A burial will take place in the spring at the Palmyra Village Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, ME 04967. Donation may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.
