SKOWHEGAN – Wilma Jean Tilton, beloved mother of Larry and Greg, died Dec. 1, 2005, at Cedar Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation, after a short battle with brain cancer. Wilma was a registered nurse for all of her adult life, working at Redington Fairfiew General Hospital and area nursing homes. She was well known to serve ice cream at Tilton’s Dairy Bar every summer during the 70’s. She dearly missed all her friends at Longmeadow apartments in Skowhegan. She loved her apartment and was content to stay there except to venture out for a quick trip to Wendy’s for a “frosty.” She dearly loved her daughter-in-law, Suzanne whom she depended on quite a bit in the last few years. Anyone who knew her knew she had a strange sense of humor, she told me to write, “To bad she passed, she made good biscuits,” which she did. Wilma was predeceased by a sister, Marie Condon of Burnham; father, Bill Dunton of Dixmont; a brother, Stewart of Dixmont; and a son, Greg of Skowhegan. She is survived by a son, Larry and his wife, Suzanne; and granddaughter, Alyssa of Skowhegan; mother, Alma Dunton of Rockland; sisters, Jane Patterson of Brewer, Dot Emery of Laconia, N.H.; two brothers, Mike Dunton of Florida and David Dunton of Swanville. When Wilma found out about her disease she said she would not fight it. She said, “I am 70 years old, I’ve lived a good life, raised two boys, I’m proud of and have a granddaughter I love and am proud of whom she referred to fondly as her “little lyssy bug”.” There will be a celebration of her life 1 p.m. Dec. 11, at the residence of her son, Larry Tilton, 102 Oak Pond Rd., Skowhegan.
