LINCOLNVILLE – Robert Huse Richards, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at his home. Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Rockland, he was the son of Laurence Harvey and Margaret Louella (Greive) Richards. A 1946 graduate of Camden High School, Bob married Janet McLeod in Belfast later that same year. Richards was the first licensed poultry inspector for the state of Maine and also was the potato inspector for Aroostook County. He was a poultry farmer and operated his own construction business, Richards Construction, throughout his lifetime. The business is now known as J & R Richards Construction Co. For more than 50 years, he had owned and operated Richards School Bus Service. Richards had been a member of King David’s Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, served as a selectman and road commissioner for the town of Lincolnville, served on the board of directors for Lincolnville Telephone Co., and was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Mutual. Mr. Richards was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather, and very much enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with his friends. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Janet Macleod Richards; one daughter, Donna Lee Brown and her husband, Stephen; one son, John L. Richards Sr. and his wife, Sheryl, all of Lincolnville; grandchildren, Kristin Brown and her partner, Christopher McKee, John L. Richards Jr. and his wife, Tammy, Jodi Richards Hanson and Jeffry Hanson, and Jamie Brown and his wife, Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Nathan Dodd, Coleman Dodd, Desirae Dodd, Ryan Richards, Devin Richards, Myia Hanson, Madison Brown and Hunter Brown; and a great-grandson, Kaiden Dodd. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at United Christian Church, Lincolnville, with the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet officiating. Interment will be afterward at Maplewood Cemetery, Lincolnville. A reception will be held at the church after the interment.
