MONTICELLO – Gerald Somerville Folsom, 91, passed away Oct. 16, 2008, at the home of his son, Kirk Folsom, in Whiting, N.J. Gerald was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Roundup, Mont., to Washburn “Bernie” and Fern (Somerville) Folsom. He married May Kirkpatrick, in May 1941, in Houlton. They resided in Monticello for 20 years where they farmed and raised sheep, cattle and potatoes as well as their two sons, Wesley and Kirk. In 1962, they moved to Presque Isle and Gerald went to work in the potato processing plants, where he worked until he retired. They spent two years in their camper traveling and enjoyed each other’s company until they moved into an apartment in Friendly Village, Monticello, where they resided until May’s passing in 2003. Not wanting to be alone, Gerald moved to New Jersey to live with his son, Kirk and Cathy Mahan, who was like his daughter. Gerald is survived by his son, Wesley Gerald Folsom and his wife, Bonnie, of Mapleton, their daughter, Eileen Morneault and her husband, Mike and his great-grandchildren, Michaela, Marshall and Micah, all of Presque Isle; as well as his son, Kirk Folsom of Whiting, N.J., and his children, Brian Folsom of Sunnyville, Calif., and his daughter, Elizabeth (Folsom) Mangold and her husband, Isaac, of Santa Clara, Calif. A service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Monticello Methodist Church. A committal service and graveside prayers will be held immediately after the service. There will then be a time of fellowship with refreshments at the Methodist church. We welcome all of Gerald’s friends to come together for a time of remembering his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gerald to Monticello Methodist Church.
