CASWELL – Omar J. O’Neal, 95, husband of Mrs. Wyona “Nonie” O’Neal, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 6, 2008, at a Van Buren nursing facility after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Caswell, son of Charles and Nellie (Spencer) O’Neal. He attended Caswell and Limestone schools and was married to Wyona “Nonie” E. Bell, March 11, 1943. Mr. O’Neal had been employed with Lane Construction Co., for many years. In addition to his parents, Omar was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Elwood and Floyd O’Neal; and four sisters, Effie Peers, Beatrice Finnemore, Gladys Greenier and Hazel Adams. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wyona “Nonie” O’Neal of Caswell; one son, Alan O. O’Neal and his companion, Carol Bell, of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ernest Weakley of Amsterdam, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jamie Eknian of Woburn, Mass., Tim Legassey of Winchester, Mass., David Weakley of Therberg, N.Y., Brian Weakley and Debra Birkholz, both of Amsterdam, N.Y.; five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment will take place after the memorial service at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Limestone Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in Mr. O’Neal’s memory to the charity or organization of their choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
