AUGUSTA – Marlene Duncan passed away Nov. 6, 2008. She was born March 15, 1935, in Muskegon, Mich., the daughter of Rose and Carl Hanson. Marlene worked in the medical profession and volunteered for various organizations, including hospice as a volunteer and board member. She retired from the Maine affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, from which she received the Distinguished Service Award. Marlene is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Duncan; her children, Barbara Gunn of Orono, Karen Landry and her husband, Dan, of Orrington and Charles Duncan of Brewer; and her sister, Judy Miller of Ludington, Mich. She is also survived by her grandsons, Duncan and Cameron Gunn of Orono. The family thanks the third floor staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center for their kindness and care in Marlene’s last days of life. They also recognize Dr. Magioncalda and the dedicated staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care for their devotion and support, as well as Dr. Roy Miller for his care and friendship. A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at her home, 607 Leighton Road, Augusta, with refreshments prepared by her grandson, Duncan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in the memory of Marlene may be made to Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
