OGUNQUIT – Laura Berenice Riesco Luszczynska passed away Nov. 14, 2008. Laura was born Feb. 25, 1940, in La Oroya, Peru, to Maria and Eulogio Riesco. She grew up in Lima, Peru, immigrated to the U.S., where she attended Wayne State University and acquired a doctorate in romance languages from the University of Kentucky. In college she met and married her husband of 43 years, Robert Luszczynski, who passed away in 2005. Laura was a professor of Spanish language and literature at the University of Maine – Orono, for more than 25 years before retiring in Ogunquit. She was passionate about writing, and her most recent novel, “Ximena de dos Caminos” – Ximena at the Crossroads, received widespread critical acclaim. She will always be remembered as a generous and loving nurturer in her roles as wife, mother and friend. Laura is survived by her sister, Nora Pinkston, of Overland Park, Kan.; four daughters, Halina Luszczynska of Dallas, Aida Luszczynska of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Ana Luszczynska of Miami and Nathalia Uribe of Ogunquit; and five grandchildren, Laura, Joseph, Amaya, Kadijah and Ilan Isaiah.
