OLD TOWN – Robert A. Simon, 78, died peacefully Nov. 28, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 5, 1930, in Old Town, a son of David and Eugenia (St. Pierre) Seymour “Simon.” Bert served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves for almost nine years. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Germany. He then worked for the city of Old Town Department of Public Works for many years. He was a very active member of Old Town Benevolent Order of Elks, B.P.O.E. No. 1287, where he served as exalted ruler several times. He was also very active in his other organizations, including Knights of Columbus, VFW Post No. 3381, American Legion Post No. 84 and AMVETS. Bert was very giving in time and labor to these various charitable organizations. He is survived by three children, Michael Simon of Livermore Falls, Brenda Leavitt and her husband, Dan, of Orland and Cindy Enos and her husband, Tim, of Alton; five grandchildren, Robert, Missy and Melanie Enos, and Kristen and Graham Leavitt; two great-grandchildren, Kayden Barnett and Neveah Audrey; sister, Pauline Rand of Old Town; brothers, Randolph Seymour of Olamon and Eugene Simon of Old Town; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie Russell of Alaska, Norman Russell and his wife, Mary, of Milford and Debbie Hamm and her husband, Jim, of Alton; several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Audrey in 2006; a son, Bobby Simon in 1991; brothers, Walter Simon and Donald Simon; and a sister, Rose Cates. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where members of Knights of Columbus will perform a chapel service 7:15 p.m. and members of the Elks will perform a chapel service 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Old Town, with the Rev. Bill Labbe, celebrant. Interment with military honors will be 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town. Donations may be made to Harris House, 45 Fiorica Road, Livermore Falls, ME 04254, where Michael was a resident.
