SOUTH CHINA – On Dec. 4, 2008, Kaitlin Osborne, a beautiful, young, 25-year-old woman, passed away after a short six-month battle with breast cancer. She touched the hearts of all those she met. Kaitlin was born May 4, 1983. While growing up in Liberty, she attended Walker Elementary School and Mount View High School. She went on to Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., where she graduated with honors and received a bachelor’s degree in sociology. During her college years, Kaitlin spent many school vacations as an active volunteer for Habitat For Humanity and for peace organizations. Kaitlin enjoyed swimming, water-skiing, biking, hiking, camping and skydiving. She also had the opportunity to travel to Australia, the Bahamas, Florida and Mexico, and was very politically active in many events. While she worked for Motivational Services, Augusta, assisting young adults with mental disability, where she did a remarkable job, she met her husband, Kevin Osborne, of South China. Before their marriage June 7, 2008, they built a home in South China, where she was very conscientious about living a healthy lifestyle. She was a Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association member and encouraged all to eat organically. Kaitlin was predeceased by her parents, Michael Janssen and Sharon (Manchester) Janssen Fitzmaurice; as well as her Manchester and Janssen grandparents. Kaitlin will be missed by her devoted husband, Kevin Osborne; her two brothers, Leon Janssen of Olympia, Wash., and Luke Janssen of Belfast; stepfather, Richard Fitzmaurice and wife, Karen; mother-in-law, Marie Osborne; brother-in-law, Brian Osborne and his partner, Stacey Coventry; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be no public visiting hours. A celebration of Kaitlin’s life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at China Baptist Church, 36 Causeway Road, China Village.
