MILLINOCKET – Michael P. “Mike” Burke, 54, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born May 29, 1954, in Millinocket, the son of William P. and Arlene A. (Dishon) Burke Jr. Mike was an avid golfer and holds many records at Hillcrest Golf Course, Millinocket, which remain unbroken. He began working at the golf course when he was 12 years old, becoming the superintendent of Hillcrest Golf Course until he retired due to illness in 2007. He loved fishing and riding in his truck with his honey, Jean, in the woods. Mike also drew great enjoyment from spending time with his family and friends. He was a charter member of VFW Men’s Auxiliary, Francis Elliot Post No. 4154, a charter member and past commander of Sons of the American Legion, Donald V. Henry Post No. 80, and a 19-year member of Millinocket Lodge No. 1521, B.P.O.E. In addition to his father, William “Bill” Burke Jr. of Millinocket, Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Jean L. (Kimball) Burke of Millinocket; a brother, William Burke III and his wife, Susan, of Millinocket; a sister, Susan York and her husband, Arthur, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mike was predeceased by his mother, Arlene; a brother, Roy Burke; and a nephew, Tommy York. Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where the Sons of the American Legion will present a bible and a flag and a rosary service will be held 7 p.m. conducted by the officers and members of the Daughters of Isabella, Little Flower Circle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider.
