ORONO and HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, England – Anthony Boswell Taylor died Dec. 18, 2008, in Orono, after a short illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, son of Charles Reginald Taylor and Marion (Boswell) Taylor. He served two years in the British army and held degrees in mathematics and chemistry, from London and Bristol universities. He was employed for many years by British Petroleum, the Welcome Foundation and Rank Xerox. In Maine he was employed at the University of Maine, where he worked on the acid rain project and at Chute Chemical Co., Bangor. His interests were many, including a passion for vintage cars, cameras and above all, great literature. He loved everything. He is survived by his wife, Esther (Goodine) Taylor of Orono, whom he met while she was on a Fulbright exchange in 1985; her daughter, Sally Gilbert Hasey; his first wife, Susan Diment; their daughter, Sali Taylor-Kydd and her husband, Steven, of Venice, Calif.; his stepsons, Timothy Taylor and wife, Jackie, and Simon Taylor and wife, Nobu, all of England; and his grandchildren, Oliver and Lola Taylor-Kydd, Becky and Abbie Taylor, Alex and Sam Taylor. Friends are invited to an informal remembrance gathering with refreshments 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
