DURAND, Wis. – Catherine A. “Kay” Smith, 86, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. She was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Bayonne, N.J., to Irish immigrants, Patrick and Mary (Lyons) Deevy. Kay married Lyle Smith, May 7, 1943. They lived in New Jersey and Wisconsin; finally settling in Durand, Wis. Kay was proud of her Irish ancestry, enjoyed playing cards, bingo and her weekly garage sale outings. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always special to her and will miss her very much. Kay is survived by five sons, John and wife, Laura, of Limestone, Kenneth and wife, Mary Lynn, of The Woodlands, Texas, Richard and wife, Joyce, of Toms River, N.J., Lyle and wife, Deborah, of Lanoka Harbor, N.J., and Thomas and wife, Lisa, of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara and husband, Duane Meixner, of Arkansaw, Wis., and Kathleen and husband, George Davis, of Toms River, N.J.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lyle, in 2007; three sisters, Alice, Mary Meyer, and Anne (Weisensee; and a brother, John. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Ann’s unit of St. Elizabeth Nursing Home, Wabasha, Minn., and Oakview Care Center, Durand, Wis., for the love and care extended to Kay throughout the last five years. A funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. Mary’s Church, Durand, Wis., with Father Jeffrey Burrill officiating.
