LINCOLNVILLE – Jerome Stanley Cossman, 94, died peacefully Dec. 16, 2008, of natural causes, in Belfast. He enjoyed good health his whole life and never had a serious illness. Jerome Cossman was born in 1914, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Joseph Hiram and Jennie Cossman. Jerome married Irene Schwartz, in 1940. He earned his certified public account degree at City College of New York and joined J.B. Williams Pharmaceutical Co., Inc., where he became a director and vice president of finance until his retirement. Jerome and Irene first came to Maine in 1955, and bought property in Montville where they built a family compound that kept the family together as it enlarged through the years. In 1997 they moved to Lincolnville, where Irene was the proprietor of Red Barn, an upscale antique establishment on Route One. Jerome and Irene maintained three beautiful homes in Manhattan, N.Y.; Montville; and Carefree, Ariz., where the Cossman clan gathered in good times and bad. Even though he is gone, the house that Jerome built will live on and on. He had a beautiful life with his wife of 68 years, Irene, who survives him, along with their four children, Gail, married to Jeff Thorson, David, married to Jill Cossman, Kathy, married to Barry Karson, and Jon, married to Gina Cossman; 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Matthew, James, Gabriel, Joanna, Joseph, Jane, Jack and Julianna; and three great-grandchildren, Rosalinda, Roberto and Tanner. His brother, Eddie; and sister, Ruth, predeceased him. Arrangements under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.
