BANGOR – Mary Ann George, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, died unexpectedly Dec. 20, 2008. She was welcomed into the arms of God and joyously reunited with her parents, Maroun and Anne Corey George, who predeceased her. Mary Ann was born May 30, 1934, the second of four children. She attended St. John’s Catholic Grammar School and graduated from Bangor High School in 1952. Mary Ann continued her education at cosmetology school, graduating as a licensed cosmetologist. She was a hairdresser in the Bangor area for many years, working primarily in private homes and nursing homes. Mary Ann was a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of St. John’s Catholic Women’s Council, where she served as secretary for many years. She also volunteered at the Catholic Youth Organization, CYO, of St. John’s, where she taught cooking to middle school girls. Mary Ann was truly gifted creatively, as her painting, crocheting, needlepoint and cooking demonstrated. To know Mary Ann was to love her, as her many family members and friends can attest. She loved people, especially her nieces and nephews, to whom she was a second mother. They were all drawn to her joyous personality and her genuine unselfish nature. She would listen, give advice, help and comfort, wherever she was needed, often with a loving and delicious dose of “Auntie’s” chocolate cream pie. She was the most precious daughter, sister, aunt and friend that anyone could be blessed with. Mary Ann was a loving sister to William E. George, Louis J. George, and Jo-Anne George McCarty and her husband, Michael. She was also a special auntie to her nephews, William M. George and his wife, Sherry, Christopher M. McCarty and Michael M. McCarty; nieces, Jacqueline George Dodd, Alana George Jandreau and her husband, Donny, Anne Marie George Stover and her husband, Jeremy and Lorraine George Bosse and her husband, Peter; great-nephew, Matthew M. George; and great-nieces, Kristine and Michelle Dodd. Wherever Mary Ann was, that was home, and she will be desperately missed by all who knew her. Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Maroun and Anne Corey George; sister-in-law, Susanne George; great-nephew, Nathan George; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins; and a special friend, Rosemary Rist. Mary Ann would want to be remembered with joy, not sorrow. In keeping with Mary Ann’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements are by Greenlawn Funeral Directors, Bangor.
