FRANKFORT – John David Harriman Sr., 62, passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at a Bangor hospital. John was born June 20, 1946, in Belfast, to the late Dallas A. Sr. and Beatrice H. (Harvey) Harriman. John served his country in the Army and the Air Force, before becoming the co-founder of Harriman Brothers Construction with his brother, Dallas. He was a long haul truck driver for more than 20 years, and also worked with his boys at Harriman and Sons for the last three years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was working in his truck garage, which he was very proud of. John always looked forward to going to Daytona, Fla., every year to watch the Daytona 500. There, he supported his favorite driver, No. 88, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and to John it was Dale Jr. all the way. John loved his family and friends, and was always there to help them out. He will be greatly missed, yet remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Harriman; sons, John Jr. and wife, Jana, Richard and wife, Jen, and Troy and wife, Corrie, special brother, Dallas and wife, Shiela; brothers, Ralph and wife, Sue, Doyle and wife, Del, Mark and wife, Rose, and Walter; special grandchildren, Hayleigh, Lilyann, Sage, Wyatt and Chase; special sisters-in-law, Jane, Carolyn, Janet and Janice; special brother-in-law, Ronnie; special nieces, Leisha and Lisa; special nephew, Wayne Harriman; and special friends, Vaughn and Frances Thibodeau, Randy and Susan Higgins, Jim White, Winston and Cheryl Shankel, Tommy, Eric and many others too numerous to mention. John was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte; brothers, Kenneth and Wilbur; as well as by a special mother-in-law, “Ma” Frances Sargent. Family and friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, with Steve Nute officiating. Everyone is invited for refreshments and a continued time of remembrance after the service at John’s home, 181 Main Road North, Frankfort.
