BANGOR and RIVERVIEW, Fla. – Leona “Lee” M. Birmingham Brewer, 82, passed away Jan. 2, 2009, at South Bay Hospital, Florida. She was born April 11, 1926, in Patten, the daughter of the late George and Suzie (Brennan) Duffy of Benedicta. Lee enjoyed music, dancing, children and spending time with her family. She was an avid Red Sox fan and always looked forward to the start of the season. Lee loved cheering for her children and grandchildren in all of their sports adventures. She will be remembered by her family for her honesty, sense of humor, generosity, kind heart and her ability to put the needs of her family ahead of her own. Her faith in God never wavered and was strong up until the end. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege to know her. Lee was predeceased by her husband, Glenwood Brewer of East Millinocket; sisters, Lill, Dot and Mary; brothers, Vaughn, Gerald and Charlie; and a son, Richard C. Birmingham of Bangor. She is survived by one brother, Gene Duffy of California; nine children, Bonnie Jellison and husband, Ted, of Brewer, Rebecca Thomas Barrett Birmingham of Lynn, Mass., Marylee Jordan and husband, Ernie, of Cape Elizabeth, Mae Littlefield of Bangor, Ann Birmingham of Bangor, Debbie Kinney and husband, Jeff, of Bangor, Wanda Mitchell and husband, David, of Bangor, John Birmingham and his wife, Lee, of Bangor, and Jill Schulz and husband, David, of Riverview, Fla. She also was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; she cherished each of them, even the ones she had yet to meet. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Kiley-Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial in Lee’s honor will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. Spring burial in Benedicta will be announced at a later date.
