CROSS LAKE – Reginald C. Bates, 74, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Jan. 10, 2009, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Howland, the son of William and Marie Lugdon Bates. Reginald was a retired tool engineer, served in the U.S. Army and was the former commander of the American Legion Post, Stockholm. He is survived by his wife, RoseMary Kupfer Bates; one brother, Vaughn Bates; two sisters, Muriel Rackliff and Virginia Malinowski; two sons, James and Randy Bates; and four grandchildren, Alyssa, Cinthia, Maryann and Tyler. Viewing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at St. Joseph’s Church, where a Mass will begin 10 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Mass cards or monetary donations be made in Reginald’s honor to the heating fund at St. Joseph’s Church, Sinclair, ME 04779.
