BREWER and VEAZIE – Robert J. Aronson, 83, of Brewer, formerly of Veazie and Dallas, passed away peacefully Jan. 11, 2009, at his residence, after a long illness. He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in New York City, the son of Aaron S. Aronson and Ida C. M. Aronson. He attended Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., and then served three years in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After the war, he attended New York University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1949. After many years in the retail trade, he opened his own store in Dallas, which he operated for 20 years, from 1964 until 1984. After closing his business, he remained in the retail field as a consultant and enjoyed teaching at Richmond College, Dallas. After the passing of his first wife, Eunice, in 1990, he moved to Bangor in 1991. He remarried in 1993 to Deolinda Amaral Olver and enjoyed time traveling with her. He continued his lifelong love of learning by receiving a master’s degree in history from the University of Maine in 1995, at the age of 70. He continued his graduate studies at the university for several more years at the doctoral level until illness forced him to slow down. He is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Deolinda Olver Aronson of Brewer; two daughters, Wendy L. Brien and her husband, Al, and Marcia D. Friedman and her husband, Bruce; one son, Michael Aronson, all of Houston; one stepdaughter, Maria Higgins and her husband, Bill, of Brewer; and two stepsons, William M. Olver and his wife, Mandy, of Winterport and Stephen J. Olver of Colorado Springs, Colo. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Andy Friedman, Jenny Friedman, Emily Brien, Brian Aronson, Rachael Aronson and Alexander Aronson, all of Houston; five stepgrandchildren, William I. Olver of Orland, Kevin Olver, Thomas Olver and Erika Olver of Winterport and Brandon Olver of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his close and dear brother, Edgar Aronson and his sister-in-law, Nancy Aronson, of South Gouldsboro and New York City. He cherished the time spent with his brother, especially sailing along the Maine coast. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as by many dear friends. There will be no visiting hours. Private committal services will be held in Dallas. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
