LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Hugh “Jack” Dougherty, 84, passed away Jan. 12, 2009, at his home. Jack was born in Bangor and grew up on a dairy farm in Brewer. He served in the Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of Bulge. Jack received his master’s degree from the University of Maine and worked as an electrical engineer for Lucent, Holmdel, N.J., for 42 years, retiring in 1982. After retirement, Jack enjoyed making furniture reproductions. He was also a parishioner of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Jackson, N.J. Jack lived in Millstone Township for 26 years before moving to Fairways, Lakewood, N.J., in 2000. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard; his sister, Betsy Dall; and a daughter, Donna Dougherty. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Barbara; his children, Michael Dougherty, Deborah McCarthy, Carol Krepp and Kenneth Coupe; his two brothers, James and Robert Dougherty; sister, Catherine Cushman; his 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at D’Elia Funeral Home, Route 70 and Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, N.J., where a service will be held 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory can be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, P.O.
