BREWER – Mike defined himself as, and was proud to be, an “honorably discharged Marine.” He did the best that he could to live his life accordingly. He had a kind and gentle spirit and was truly loved. He died Jan. 12, 2009, after an extended illness. Mike was born Jan. 25, 1950, in Old Town, to Minnie Currier and Charles Mayhew. He was a graduate of Old Town High School, Washington County Vocational Technical Institute and the University Maine, Orono. He served his country in Vietnam as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division from 1968 to 1970. He worked for United Airlines for several years out of Boston and San Francisco. Mike was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Dexter Wilson of Corinth and their children, Michael Wilson and Michelle Gillen. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Pehrson and survived by her husband, Dennis Pehrson, and their children, Dennis Jr. and Denise. He is also survived by brother, Thomas Leavitt and his daughter, Steffani Chandonait; brother, Jimmie Leavitt and his wife, Roberta, and their son, Sidney; niece, Ashley Leavitt; sisters, Kimberly Earley, and Linda and John McCullen; several great-nieces and great-nephews; his great-aunt, Clara Currier; and many cousins. Per Mike’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. His remains will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in the spring. The date will be announced for those wishing to attend.
