BAR HARBOR – Llewellyn “Lew” Bartlett Moore, 92, died Jan. 28, 2009, at a Bar Harbor health care facility, after a short illness. He was born May 23, 1916, in Bar Harbor, the son of Lester and Ruth Moore. He graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1933 and joined the Army, serving in the Pacific Theater as a technician fourth grade from Jan. 1, 1943-Feb. 18, 1946. Lew worked at Railway Express, delivering to Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor for four years and he was a x-ray technician at Mount Desert Island Hospital for 35 years. He was a lifelong resident of Bar Harbor, only leaving the island to complete his tour of duty during World War II. Lew met and married Frieda Moore while working at Mount Desert Island Hospital and they were married 43 years. He is survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy and Brian Manton of Lisle, Ill., and Donna Hutton of Bar Harbor; one granddaughter, Michelle Stoessel and husband, Brian; one great-granddaughter, Emily Jane of Chicago; and two nephews, Lester Moore and wife, Mary, of Brockton, Mass., and Richard Moore of Tampa, Fla. Lew was predeceased by his wife, Frieda Moore; and by a brother, Carroll Moore and wife, Clarie. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Sandra M. Reed officiating.
