OLD TOWN, BANGOR and PORTLAND – Shea Alica Messier, 12, passed away Jan. 31, 2009, at a Portland health care facility. She was born May 6, 1996, in Bangor. Our princess on earth is now an angel in heaven. “Princess” Shea Messier passed surrounded by the love of her family. After a lifetime of struggles with neurofibromatosis, cystic fibrosis and cancer, she can now run and breathe freely in heaven! Shea is survived by her mother, Heidi and stepfather, Michael Guimond, of Portland; her father, Chris and stepmother, Karen Messier, of Kenduskeag; siblings, Whitney and Tommy Messier, Chase, Mikayla and Mason Guimond, and Shelby Johnstone; nephew, Jobe Thibodeau; maternal grandparents, Gary and Rosa Bellefleur of Stetson; paternal grandmother, Margaret Messier of Old Town; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Shea was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Thomas Messier of Old Town. Shea attended kindergarten-second grade in Old Town, third-fifth grades in Bangor and most of sixth grade in Biddeford. Shea attended Lincoln School, Portland, at the end of her sixth grade and the beginning of her seventh grade years. Shea very much loved all of the caregivers who helped her throughout her life, as well as all of the school teachers, faculties and administrations, her friends and classmates; and they loved her very much in return. Some of Shea’s favorite things were watching TV, especially Hannah Montana and John & Kate Plus Eight; her stuffed animals; and playing board games, especially Yahtzee. Shea also really loved the big breakfasts her dad cooked for her, her mom’s chicken and broccoli, and Grammie’s whoopee pies. She loved her whole family, both biological and extended. Shea will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched. Family and friends may call noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. A memorial service to be held in Portland will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in the spring at Coboro Cemetery, Stetson.
