BROOKLIN and BALDWIN, N.Y. – Sheldon L. Gray, 83, died Feb. 25, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born April 21, 1925, in Penobscot, the son of Arthur H. and Mina M. (Morgan) Gray. Sheldon graduated from Brooklin High School, Brooklin. He attended Bates College and graduated from Harvard University. He served in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as a Navy ensign. He worked as a math teacher at Lawrence High School, Baldwin, N.Y., for more than 25 years. He loved sailing, golfing, reading, playing cards and working the grounds around his home in Brooklin. He belonged to Brooklin Masonic Lodge. Sheldon is survived by his three sons, Gregory and wife, Nancy, of Brooklin, William and wife, Catherine, of New York, and Timothy and wife, Angela, of Freeport; nine very special grandchildren, Jane, Bryan, Elizabeth, Katherine, Sarah, Meaghan, Gretchen, Timothy and Laura; and two brothers, William Edward Gray of Blue Hill and Arthur H. Gray Jr. of Virginia. Sheldon was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Jane (Tyler). A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at First Baptist Church, Brooklin. Burial will be in the spring at Mount Ephraim Cemetery.
